At McKinley we are celebrating National Schwa Day by wearing Pajamas on Tuesday, April 7th! 2nd graders learn a lot about the Schwa sound at this grade level, as well as our 3rd graders. The Schwa sounds are vowel sounds that make the short /i/ or /u/ sound unexpectedly in words that are spelled with other vowels, like in the word "reason." The syllable "son" says /uh/ instead of the short vowel sound for "o." Schwa sounds are known to be "relaxed" so why not relax with wearing PAJAMAS on Tuesday!!

We are thankful and appreciative everyday of our aides, paras, and full-time sub at McKinley, but excited to get to celebrate their hard work and dedication on "National Para Appreciation Day" today! Each one of these individuals plays a role in the success of our students at McKinley!

Our core value focus for the month of March at McKinley was "Respect!" Our staff member Mr. Sommers, 2nd grader K. Peterson, and 3rd grader A. Lunt were our staff and student winners from nominations for this recognition!

McKinley would love your help with leaving encouraging messages on our sidewalks on Monday, April 6th as our 3rd graders begin state assessments next week! Chalk will be left on the front porch and you can come over anytime on Monday to write encouraging words on the front sidewalk!
