Parents, for those families that were unable to make it Open House, students were given magnets with district calendars on them today. Please ask your student where his/hers is when they get home today so you can add it to your fridge for easy referencing!

Congratulations to our AMS Students of the Week for September 15-19, 2025. The teachers nominating this group spoke of traits representing accountability, respect, and perseverance. These students are leaders in their classrooms, and their bright smiles make our building shine :)

When the weather is nice, all of our Longhorns get an opportunity to get outside during their lunch periods. They often play football, basketball, four square, or volleyball; otherwise, they just get a chance to hang out and get some fresh air.

This is another new Longhorn that has joined our team from a different building in the district. We are so happy to have Mr. Whiteley on our 7th grade team!

The Boys Town skill that the middle schoolers have been working on over the last two weeks is Caring for Your Own Belongings. The four steps of this skill are:
1. Avoid damaging your possessions
2. Use items as intended
3. Put things away
4. Report damage
In an effort to help them with this skill, especially the step of putting things away in the right place so the item is not lost, please take a look at what's currently on the Lost and Found table. If you see something that belongs to your child, have them grab it while at school tomorrow!

Our AMS FACS (Family and Consumer Sciences) room is full of wonderful smells again this year. The students have been working on knife skills, food safety, and following a recipe, and now they have made cherry kolaches, apple pie, bubble bread, and apple crisp. The 8th graders are learning how to fry chicken today!

The Abilene Middle School yearbook staff attended a workshop at the Topeka Zoo this week. During the workshop they worked with a cover artist to design this year's yearbook cover, learned about team building, coverage strategies, and photography tips. An added bonus was visiting the animals at the zoo when they were finished!
Don't forget! A special yearbook offer is going on NOW until September 19th! You can order your yearbook here: https://www.jostens.com/apps/store/productBrowse/1071176/Abilene-Middle-School/2026-Yearbook/20250814151511903118/CATALOG_SHOP/

Congratulations to our September Staff Member of the Month - Mr. Weishaar!
Staff Member of the Month is voted on by students, and students are given the option of sharing why they believe their chosen staff member deserves recognition. Along with being kind, caring, and funny, these are some of the things that students had to say about Mr. Weishaar:
“He always puts a smile on my face.”
“He was really encouraging when I did my speech in music appreciation.”
“He deserves it cause he always works hard on the first start of the year.”
We are so grateful to have Mr. Weishaar as part of our Longhorn team!

Hello Longhorn Families,
Two HUGE thank yous go out to all of you!
First, THANK YOU for coming to last night's Open House and Technology Night. It is always lovely to meet our Longhorn parents, relatives, and siblings. I have attached the technology presentation Mrs. Berns gave - it is beneficial for everyone to learn about PowerSchool, Canvas, and Notability and how your students use these on a daily basis. Please always reach out if you need help with any of these.
Second, THANK YOU so much for all of your support of our school-wide fundraiser. We still have two days left, and we have already crushed our sales goals with just the online portion! I can't wait to see how much more we have sold on the paper order forms! I cannot tell you how much your support means to our AMS family! Order forms and money are due to STAR teachers this Friday.
With gratitude,
Dr. Jenna Delay, AMS Principal
