Cowboys Need Flawless Wins

by Hunter Clark, Staff Writer

The Abilene Baseball team is off to a mediocre start sitting at 5-5. The team is led by Seniors: Carter Taplin, Samuel Burton, Stewart Scott, Kaleb Becker, and Sophomores: Stocton Timbrook, Kyson Becker, and Zach Miller. After splitting with Thomas More Prep- Marian, the Cowboys look to host three home double headers Concordia on Tuesday, Marysville on Thursday, and Beloit on Friday.  The Cowboys look to go 6-0 this week hoping for 3 sweeps, and will attempt to work behind the pitching and defense.  The pitching is led by Kyson Becker and Timbrook. Becker is 2-2 with an ERA (Earned Run Average) of 4.200 and a WHIP(Walks-Hits-Innings-Pitched) of 1.582. Timbrook is 1-1 with 3.0 ERA and a 1.571 WHIP the team as a whole has a 3.65 ERA and a 1.64 WHIP. Defensively the Cowboys have been really good with a fielding percentage of .946 with 14 errors so far. With the Cowboys having 3 double headers this week they will have to play flawlessly if they want a chance at good seeding for regionals.
