FAMILY FITNESS CHALLENGE INFORMATION
This free program is designed to promote family fitness and
healthy lifestyles.
Each month students will be given a Family Fitness Activity Sheet. This activity sheet will list activities aimed at increasing physical activity and good nutrition. The activity sheets will be similar to a scavenger hunt, but instead of families racing to find items, they will challenge themselves to complete as many on the activities on the list as possible.
Families may choose a designated number of the activities and check them off as they are completed. Families checking off the minimum required for the month may then turn in their challenges at their child(ren’s) school.
Grand prizes will be awarded at every school. Turn in your monthly challenges, the more you turn in the more chances you will have to win the grand prize cash award at your school in May.
Families will also be given educational information regarding fitness and nutrition.

Dates for monthly challenge sheets
These are the dates the challenges sheets will be due each month. Your child will receive their sheet from their school prior to the beginning of each month. Your child will need to turn in completed and signed sheets to the designated orange box at their school by the due date. Due dates are:
September 30, October 29,
November 30, December 20,
January 31, February 28,
March 31, and April 29
May 3rd-Grand Prize winners announced

Benefits of Exercise
Exercise is not only important for adults but also for children. It promotes heart health, develops muscle groups, helps with keeping weight under control. It protects you from specific diseases, and also reduces stress. It has been proven to help with thinking skills and benefiting student academic performance. Parents and families can be great role models for children by learning from example...if you read, they read, if you eat healthy, they eat healthy, if you exercise, they will too. Family fitness can be a great way of connecting with your family it makes your bonds with your children stronger and also gives your family some traditions. Exercise does not need to be costly. Walking is one relatively cheap way to get exercise. It is also one of the best lifetime fitness activities. Abilene has great neighborhoods to walk. Eisenhower Park has a great walking trail, south of Abilene is Brown’s Park, it has a great country setting with walking trails.
Walking your child to school is a great way for you both to get exercise and also gives you time to talk with each other.
Exercise promotes the development of muscles, strong lungs, and a healthy heart. Physical activity can aid in weight management, and it can prevent certain diseases that can result from being obese. Physical fitness is not just important for adults but for children as well.
