News - From Abilene Public Schools

Feb. 14th, 2006: The Abilene Public School district for the last five years has placed a special emphasis on students learning to read at an early age. Programs such as Booster Kindergarten, All-Day Kindergarten, Reading Recovery, Reading Enhancement, a strong Title program, and more have focused on helping all students read well. Tests last month at the third grade level showed all but three third graders were reading at or above the third grade level. Students, teachers, and parents are to be commended for this effort that the school district believes will lead to successful student progress throughout their school years.
